Rwanda China Scholarships 2026/2027 in Medicine, HEC Rwanda

Rwanda China Scholarships 2026/2027 in Medicine, HEC Rwanda

Rwanda-China Scholarships 2026/2027: Study Medicine at Inner Mongolia Medical University

If you finished high school with strong science marks and you've been sitting on them waiting for the right opportunity, here's one worth reading properly.

The Higher Education Council (HEC) has announced bilateral cooperation scholarships between the Government of Rwanda and the People's Republic of China for the 2026-2027 academic year. The scholarships are offered through Inner Mongolia Medical University, and they're all in one field: Medicine, at Bachelor's level.

The announcement was signed in Kigali on 26 August 2026 by Dr. Edward KADOZI, Director General of HEC. Applications close on 8 September 2026, so there isn't much room to sit on this one.

Who can actually apply

This is where a lot of people will get filtered out, so read the marks carefully before you start collecting documents.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Have studied MCB, PCB, BCG, or ANP in secondary school
  • Have obtained a minimum overall score of 85%
  • Have obtained at least 85% in both Biology and Chemistry
  • Have obtained at least 70% in either Mathematics or Physics
  • Not be currently enrolled in any university, local or foreign

That last point matters more than people think. If you're already registered somewhere and studying, you're out. It's not a transfer scheme.

And notice the wording on the marks. Biology and Chemistry both need 85%, not an average of the two. Maths or Physics only needs one of them at 70%, so if your Physics was weak but your Maths was fine, you're still in the game.

What you need to send

Four documents. Nothing exotic:

  1. An application letter addressed to the Director General of HEC
  2. A copy of your National ID
  3. Your Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  4. A copy of your High School Diploma, Results Slip, or an equivalent qualification

If your diploma hasn't come out yet, the results slip is accepted. That's a common worry and the announcement answers it directly.

The application letter is the one document people rush. Don't. Keep it short and clean, address it properly to the Director General, say which scholarship you're applying for, mention your combination and your results, and close it. One page is enough.

How to apply

Everything goes through the HEC MIS platform online. No hand delivery, no email submission.

Create your account early if you don't have one. Uploading documents at 11 pm on the deadline day, with a slow connection and a scanner that suddenly won't work, is a story too many students already know.

Scan your documents properly too. Clear, readable, right side up, saved as PDF where possible. A blurry photo of a results slip taken on a desk at night can quietly cost you a place.

A few honest notes

The announcement doesn't spell out what the scholarship covers. It says nothing about tuition, accommodation, monthly stipend, flights, or language training. Bilateral scholarships of this type usually cover tuition and some living support, but I'm not going to promise you numbers that aren't written in the document. If that detail matters to your decision, and it should, contact HEC directly and ask before you build your plans around it.

Same for the language question. Medicine programmes in China are often taught in English, but some require Chinese language study in the first year. The announcement doesn't say. Ask.

For anything official, HEC can be reached on:

Deadline: 8 September 2026.

Applications submitted after that date won't be considered, and there's no indication the deadline will move.

If you meet the marks, start today. Pull your results slip, make the ID copy, write the letter, update your CV, and get the account created on HECMIS. The work itself is maybe two hours. It's the waiting until the last day that ruins applications.
