Eric Hategekimana | Founder of The Light of Engineering
Meet the Founder: Eric Hategekimana
Electrical Engineering Student, Web Developer, Content Creator, and Founder of The Light of Engineering
1. Who I Am
I'm Eric Hategekimana, founder of The Light of Engineering. I'm a second-year Electrical Engineering student at Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) Musanze College, and I'm also a web developer, blog writer, and AI education learner.
I've worked in data management, sales, customer service, and platform management, and I've helped many students win places to study abroad. I run this platform alongside my studies because I believe young people deserve honest, easy access to opportunity.
2. Where It All Started
In May 2025, I had just finished my first year at university. Instead of spending the vacation doing nothing, I decided to learn skills that could open more doors for me.
I studied three areas with different coaches:
- Web development.
- Blog writing
- AI education
One YouTube video changed everything for me. It taught me how to write blogs and build a web blog using Blogger and WordPress. I followed it step by step, practiced every day, and kept improving until I mastered those skills.
3. The Turning Point
After I built these skills, companies began approaching me, and I started working with them. That was proof that digital skills can create real opportunities, even for a student.
But I noticed something painful around me. Many of my classmates were still jobless. They kept asking me to help with their applications, especially for remote jobs. Some of them had been scammed by fake agencies that promised jobs and took their money or personal information.
That hurt me. I kept asking myself one question:
I know how to build websites. Why not build one where everyone can safely find real opportunities?
That question became The Light of Engineering.
4. My Professional Experience.
Before and alongside this platform, I've built hands-on experience in several roles:
- Sales Manager, Huza.rw: I managed all platform transactions.
- Platform Manager and Head of Agents, Huza.rw: I led the agent team and ran the platform day-to-day, as part of Afrinnovators Group Ltd.
- Data Management Specialist, Huza.rw: I organized and managed the platform's data.
- Data Entry Specialist and Call Center Agent, Buy Sell or Rent (buysellorrent.com): I handled customer calls and accurate data entry.
- Content Contributor, Afritech Today: I write content for African technology audiences.
- Founder, The Light of Engineering: I built and managed this platform from the first line of code to the last published post.
These roles taught me how businesses run, how customers think, and how to manage people, data and money with care.
5. Websites I've Built
I don't just talk about web development; I build real websites.
- The Light of Engineering: thelightofengineering.com, our full opportunities and learning platform
- FitMomJay: https://www.fitmomjay.com/
- INEZA BUSINESS LTD: https://www.inezabusiness.com/
- Afritech to day: https://www.afritechtoday.com/
6. Helping Students Study Around the World
One of the things I'm proudest of is helping students reach universities abroad. Many of the students I've supported are Rwandans, and I've helped them with the whole application process.
Students I've helped have gone on to study in:
- Europe: Italy, Poland, Turkey, Germany and the United Kingdom
- North America: the United States and Canada
- Middle East: Saudi Arabia
- Africa: Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, Egypt and Ghana
Every one of those stories taught me how much a clear, honest guide can change a young person's future. That is exactly what this platform does at scale.
7. What I Built
I created The Light of Engineering to be a trusted home for opportunities and skills. Today the platform offers:
- Jobs: local and international vacancies
- Scholarships: fully funded and international study opportunities
- Internships: real professional experience
- Fellowships: academic and leadership programs
- Digital skills training: AI tools, Google products and Microsoft applications
- Career guidance: CVs, motivation letters and application support, and others
- Electrical products: a career section for electrical products such as motors and transformers from India, which connects my engineering background to my business
8. My Mission
My mission is simple: to help people find real opportunities, understand them clearly, and apply with confidence, without falling into scams.
9. What I Believe
- Opportunity should be open to everyone. Where you live or who you know shouldn't decide your future.
- Skills change lives. My own story is the proof.
- Trust comes first. Every opportunity we share is checked, and we always send you to the official link.
- Students can build things. You don't have to wait until graduation to start.
10. My Vision
I want The Light of Engineering to become one of Africa's leading digital platforms for opportunities, technology and career development. I want it to be the first place a young person goes when they're looking for their next step.
11. A Message to Young People.
If you're a student, a graduate, or someone still searching, please hear this. You don't need to have everything figured out to begin. I started with one video and a free blogging platform. Learn one skill, practice it, and keep going. Opportunities will find people who are prepared.
Follow us, join our community, and let's grow together.
