Diploma in Paramedic Technology at RP-Kigali College | Rwanda Polytechnic
Rwanda Polytechnic Introduces Diploma in Paramedic Technology to Strengthen Emergency Medical Services
In an emergency, the first minutes often determine the outcome. To strengthen the country’s response to such moments, Rwanda Polytechnic (RP), in partnership with the Ministry of Health, is introducing a Diploma in Paramedic Technology. The new programme is designed to prepare students for careers in emergency medical services (EMS) and pre-hospital care.
A New Pathway for Paramedic Training in Rwanda
Students admitted to this programme will be among the first in Rwanda to study paramedic technology at diploma level. The programme will be delivered at RP-Kigali College and is structured as a two-year, full-time course taught in English.
Programme Overview
- Qualification: Diploma in Paramedic Technology
- Duration: 2 years, full-time
- Institution: RP-Kigali College, Rwanda Polytechnic
- Partner: Ministry of Health, Republic of Rwanda
- Language of instruction: English
- Focus: Emergency medical services and pre-hospital care
Why Paramedic Training Matters
Rwanda’s demand for emergency care continues to grow, and the health system needs skilled professionals who can respond quickly and competently when lives are at risk. Paramedics are typically the first trained responders to reach a patient, providing care at the scene and during transport to a health facility. By training a new generation of paramedics locally, the programme supports a stronger and more reliable emergency response system.
Practical, Hands-On Learning
The Diploma in Paramedic Technology combines academic study with applied training. Learners will gain experience through:
- Simulation training that reflects real emergency scenarios
- Ambulance and field experience
- Clinical training in hospitals
This balanced approach is intended to ensure graduates enter the workforce with the practical competence that emergency care requires.
Career Opportunities in Emergency Medical Services
Graduates will be prepared for careers in EMS and pre-hospital care. The programme is well suited to individuals who are committed to healthcare, able to work under pressure, and motivated to serve their communities.
