Rwanda Polytechnic Is Now Accepting Applications for 2026-2027: The Full Guide for Students Across Africa.

Rwanda Polytechnic (RP) just opened applications for Year One students for the 2026-2027 academic year. The call is open to public, private, and foreign candidates, so if you're a student anywhere in Africa looking at technical and vocational higher education, this one is for you.

The window is short. Applications run from 23rd September to 3rd October 2026, and everything happens online. Below is everything from the official call and its annexes in one place, so you don't have to dig through the PDF yourself.

The basics

RP is inviting prospective students to study in Year One at its colleges as either Government Sponsored or Self / Private-Sponsored students. All programs are full-time.

• Application opens: 23rd September 2026
• Application closes: 3rd October 2026
• Application fee: 5,000 RWF, non-refundable

The call was issued in Kigali on 23rd September 2026 and signed by Dipl.-Ing. Ephrem Musonera, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, ARIA, Rwanda Polytechnic. The school's motto says it all: Skills for a better destiny.

What you need to apply.

1. A Senior 6 / Level 5 certificate or results slip, or its equivalence provided by the National Examination and School Inspection Authority (NESA) for international candidates.
2. A copy of your National ID, or a valid passport if you're an international applicant.
3. A valid email address and a password.
4. Payment of the non-refundable 5,000 RWF application fee.

Important notes before you start

• Selection and admission depend on available places and academic performance.
• If you finished secondary school before 2024, you must have two principal passes in principal subjects relevant to the program you want.
• The names on your certificate or results slip (or equivalent) must match your Rwandan national ID, or your passport if you're a foreign applicant. Check this early. A mismatch is the kind of thing that can sink an application at the last minute.
• Selected applicants get admitted to the program of their choice at any of the RP colleges where it's offered.
• After you submit successfully, a confirmation email goes to the address you used. No confirmation email means your application did not go through, and you'll need to submit again.

How to apply, step by step.

Step 1: Log in. Go to https://mis.rp.ac.rw/applications and log in with your active email and password. Your password needs at least 5 characters, one uppercase letter, one number, and one special character. New here? Click "Students Application."

Step 2: Start the application. On the RP Application Portal for 2026-2027, new applicants click "Start application." Returning applicants click "Login" to continue, update their profile, or submit program choices.

Step 3: Pick your category. Choose your applicant category, which is "Completed S6 / L5," then click Proceed. Select your country of origin too.

Step 4: Enter your completion year. Put in the year you completed A-Level (A1 completion year), then proceed.

Step 5: Create your account with your index number. Enter your index number and click Verify. If your marks aren't in SDMS, whether you're a local or international applicant, the system lets you enter your data manually. You'll also fill in your National ID, date of birth, email (twice), phone number, and password (twice). First and last names are auto-filled after verification.

Didn't study at an RP college? After typing your registration number, click the verify icon (the "?" option) to enter your names and National ID manually.

Step 6: Verify and submit your profile. Once verified, your details will show up, and you can submit your profile.

Step 7: Complete the application. In your RP Student Portal, you'll see and fill in:

• Primary information: first name, other names, email, phone number, gender, date of birth, guardian or spouse phone, National ID, nationality, province, district, sector, cell, village, disability status, and refugee status.
• Past academics (pulled from your record): department, A-Level completion year, school attended, trade or combination studied, and total aggregates obtained.
• Attachments: passport photo, National ID or passport, and your A-Level / Level 5 certificate. Each file must be 2MB or less, in PDF, JPG, or PNG format.
• Application choices: three choices, each with a department, program, and qualification level.

Then click "Save and Pay application fees."

Step 8: Pay the fee. Use any one of these methods:

• Method 1: Click "Generate billing number," enter your MoMo phone number (079... or 078...), click ISHYURA, and confirm the payment on your phone.
• Method 2: Dial *700# on MTN MoMo, enter your registration number (it looks like 25RP...), type RP when the system asks for the school code, and confirm the payment.
• Method 3: Go to the nearest Equity Bank branch and present your registration number.

The portal also shows an online option through SchoolGear. Visit equity.schoolgear.co.rw, enter your registration number, select RP from the school list, click Search, and confirm your names appear correctly. Then click Generate Billing Number and enter your MTN number. Dial 1827*1# on your MTN line, choose Pay Bill, enter the billing number, and confirm with your PIN. You'll get an SMS confirmation. Save it as proof of payment.

One more thing the portal stresses: make sure your names and application number are correct before you pay.

When everything goes through, you'll see a "Successful Application" page with your registration number, index number, National ID number, name, email, and your three program choices. There's also a Change option there. Only complete and successful applications are received and considered by the RP admission team.

Ten days goes fast, so don't wait for the last weekend. Get your documents scanned and under 2MB now. Check that your names match across your certificate and ID or passport. Set up an email you actually check, because that confirmation message is your proof the application worked. And pick your three program choices carefully, matching your combination or trade to the eligibility table above.
