IUCN Rwanda Monitoring and Evaluation Intern 2026

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is inviting applications for a Monitoring and Evaluation Intern position in Kigali, Rwanda. This is a six-month internship opportunity designed for young graduates who want to gain practical experience in monitoring and evaluation, data management, data analysis, data visualization, survey tools, and project performance reporting.

The intern will work under the guidance of the MEL Officer and support the IUCN Rwanda Country Office in strengthening data collection, data quality, reporting, and project dashboards. The opportunity is particularly relevant to graduates with backgrounds in Data Science, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Conservation Agriculture, Environmental Studies, or related fields.

The IUCN Rwanda Country Office is seeking an intern to support the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) department in collecting, entering, cleaning, analyzing, and visualizing project data. The intern will also contribute to the development of a national MEL system by integrating information from implementing partners and beneficiary organizations.

Key Responsibilities

The successful intern will support the MEL team in a range of data and reporting activities. Major responsibilities include:

1. Data Collection and Management

• Support the development and refinement of data collection templates and tools.
• Help standardize data collection processes across project components.
• Support data entry, cleaning, organization, and quality assurance.
• Ensure collected information is complete, accurate, and consistent.

1. Power BI Dashboards and Data Visualization

• Assist in developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards.
• Link Excel files and other available project data to dashboards.
• Support dashboards that provide insights into project indicators and performance.
• Produce charts, graphs, infographics, and other visualizations to communicate findings effectively.

1. Survey and Fieldwork Support

• Support the development of survey tools and protocols.
• Assist with fieldwork coordination when required.
• Contribute to the analysis and interpretation of survey results.
• Provide feedback on the use of data collection tools by field teams.

1. Monitoring and Reporting

• Support the preparation of project reports.
• Review existing dashboards and identify gaps or areas for improvement.
• Help improve data accessibility and analytical capabilities.
• Maintain communication with implementing partners regarding data-related activities and requirements.

1. Additional Duties

• Support other activities assigned by the MEL team.
• Contribute to program implementation and other tasks related to the organization's monitoring and evaluation activities.

Expected Internship Deliverables

During the six-month internship, the intern is expected to contribute to the production of:

• Cleaned and organized datasets.
• Automated Power BI portfolio and project dashboards.
• Standardized data collection templates.
• Survey tools and summary reports.
• A final internship report.
• Other assigned outputs supporting program implementation.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should have an academic background relevant to the position and demonstrate practical skills in data management and visualization.

Education

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree in:

• Data Science
• Statistics
• Monitoring and Evaluation
• Conservation Agriculture
• Environmental Studies
• A related field

A Master's degree is preferred.

Applicants should also have practical training and hands-on skills in digital data collection, data analysis, and data visualization tools.

Technical Skills

Candidates should demonstrate:

• Strong knowledge of Power BI.
• Ability to link Excel files to Power BI dashboards.
• Knowledge of data collection and analysis tools.
• Experience with KoboToolbox, ODK Collect, or similar survey tools.
• Strong data visualization skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to perform repetitive data-related tasks accurately and consistently.

Language Requirements

Applicants should have good reporting and communication skills in both Kinyarwanda and English.
